Thankful for the L.A. Kings Platelets for Playoffs Promotion & Stanley Cup Win

This past April, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the L.A. Kings joined forces to increase the platelet donation count to the Blood Donor Center. What resulted was only a far distance wish that was made into a reality for both organizations, after 45 years.

As the L.A. Kings advanced into the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Platelets for Playoffs promotion kept moving forward rapidly with more people inspired to donate platelets. After four consecutive wins into the finals, the Kings kept building momentum, with their hopeful fans’ excitement to win tickets to Game 3 of the championships.

With the amount of platelet donations received, we were able to help over 300 children with bone marrow disease, leukemia, sickle cell disease, those needing blood transfusions and much more. This is a significant increase from mid-April, when just over 90 children were benefiting from platelet donations.

Platelet donors may donate every 3 days, not to exceed 24 times per year.

Some of the prizes included:

  • Signed hockey pucks by goalie, Jonathan Quick and captain, Dustin Brown
  • A signed hockey stick from the team
  • Jonathan Quick donated $1 for each new fan or follower of @ChildrensLA, @LAKings and @JonathanQuick32 on Twitter
  • 15 guests will lunch with Jonathan Quick
